Hot off the heals of the MST3K announcement of it’s glorious return on Netflix in mid-April, we also have one hell of a Fund-It Friday for RiffTrax! This time, they are looking to do a RiffTrax Live featuring Samurai Cop, Summer Shorts Beach Party, and a third mystery show.
If you’ve never seen RiffTrax Live, then for starters you are missing out and should feel ashamed. RiffTrax is a riffing platform brought to us by the same minds behind Mystery Science Theatre 3000, so you know to expect hilarity. The difference, apart from syndication, is that with RiffTrax, they often riff over newer films that desperately need some TLC to make them watchable.
As part of this campaign, the group is wanting to start off with a riff of 1991’s Samurai Cop, a tale of two police officers who are out to take down the Katana, a group of Yakuza killers who are trying to take over the Las Angeles drug scene. With a respectable IMDB rating of 4.9, you can expect there to be plenty of laughs to be had now.
There’s not a whole lot of information about the second show, which is titled the Summer Shorts Beach Party. One could safely assume that a wide array of short films will be attacked — all with a summer theme. Count us in!
As an added bonus (and a mystery one at that), the crew will do a third show that has not yet been themed or titled. Needless to say we are excited to find out.
After the first day of the campaign, this project has gotten over half of it’s $250,000 goal with over 2000 backers. If you’re interested in joining them up, head over to the Kickstarter page and pull out that wallet.
The backer tiers start at $5 which will get your name on a thank you page of their website, and go up to $1750 which will give you a ton of goodies from the other tiers as well as 3 seats at the live Summer Beach Party event. However, we feel that the sweet spot is at $60, which will get you digital copies of the shows.
