Sharksploitation. The term that has cropped up as a result of countless movies that have been made based on our fear of the many toothed predators of the deep. From Jaws to Sharknado, the genre has a wide variety of stories to share, with varying degrees of quality; but one thing is for sure, people love these movies. So when Kickstarter gets a project to make a new sharksploitation film, you know I’m game.
Enter The Shark. The self proclaimed mixture of Jaws and James Bond that promises to use no CGI.
So, gimmicks aside, what is the movie going to be like? From the synopsis found on the Kickstarter page, the story promises to be a hell of a ride. You’ve got the wrongfully accused marine biologist who claims that a shark is on the loose, killing people left and right, desperately trying to counter the local law enforcement’s attempts at covering up the truth. Throw in some sunken treasure and voila – The Shark.
If any of this strikes you as interesting (and why the hell wouldn’t it?) go on over to the Kickstarter page and pledge at least $20 bucks. It’ll help the project out and you’ll get yourself a Blu-ray copy of the film when it’s done. Pretty good deal in my opinion.
As I am writing this, they are sitting at just under $2700 of the $8k that they are asking for. Get those wallets out, folks!
