This week’s Fund It Friday is sure to make all the Browncoats out there happy. Wanderer, by Red Cloak Games, presents what seems to be shades of Firefly in a Point & Click/Platforming combo pack. The developer’s pitch cites classics like Another World, Flashback, and Heart of Darkness as points of inspiration.
Players will take control of sufficiently-grizzled space renegade Rook, a survivor from a penal colony satellite that has crashed back to a ruined Earth. Aided by hacker Jin, Rook travels the remains of the planet, meeting friends and foes alike. There will be puzzles, action platforming, and the combat system is a mishmash of Paper Mario, Valkyrie Profile, and Rogue Galaxy. Talk about a star-studded list of reference titles!
While the combat system looks cool, it’s the art and setting style here that really has me excited. The game features nicely detailed and appropriately proportioned pixel art heroes and villains set against the backdrop of a hand-painted world. The animations look fluid, and all the proper pieces for a successful space-western seem to be present. The game features several NPC factions that show a lot of character, each of which may help or hinder your progress throughout the adventure. Also of note is Zigfried, a wolfhound of notable intelligence who can join your crew. Not only is he a badass looking hound, but it also seems he might allow you to double jump in platforming sequences as well. Double win there!
The ask here seems pretty low at a paltry $70k, and Red Cloak Games are well on their way to making the cut. Backers can expect to receive a copy of the game for $15, beta access for $25, with the rewards and tier pledge requirements getting steep and crazy after that. Love keeps a ship in the air when it oughtta fall down; I am hoping this project gets a lot of love and makes it to liftoff. Have a look at the great trailer below, and drop by the Kickstarter to show your support. You can also drop by the Steam Greenlight page and help them get onto the marketplace too.
