Welcome back to a another Fund It Friday, folks. We’re taking a different tact this week, as this particular project is already funded with time to spare.
Retronator Pixel Art Academy is an interesting take on teaching. Matej ‘Retro’ Jan is the creator, and sports a long history of success in the video game/pixel art scene. Retro has elected to share his vast knowledge with interested parties on the internet via a pixel art infused adventure game that casts users in the role of a freshman student in pixel art. Check the video below, as Retro does a fantastic job of selling the idea. Bring your listening hat; Retro speaks quickly about the subject.
This project has been funded 35 times over (Retro only asked for $1k to make the project), so there is no dire need to run out and support this project. Having said that, for $10, you help out a talented artist, and also get a copy of the game/learning software when it releases (which it has already has, sort of). If you drop more cold hard cash, you’ll be able to create your own character/avatar, with higher levels allowing you to play the alpha during foundation year 2015/2016.
I’ll confess, I am a die-hard pixel art fan. I have very little experience in the field, limited mostly to creating avatars in The Palace chat program from the mid 90s. I have recently been playing around with free art program GIMP, which Retro also uses in the video above. I am excited to learn more, and honestly may fund this project just to look at all the great art and listen to the excellent music that accompanies the game(courtesy of C-jeff).
Give the video topside a look. Like what you see? Head on down to Retro’s Kickstarter and throw money at it until you get the rewards you like. Send us your pics if you make something cool! Funding closes 8/29.
