Kickstarter has made a significant impact on the gaming industry, and the jury is out on whether it’s been a revolutionary change, or a detriment to the medium. Either way you look at it, you can’t argue that some of the coolest projects in the last couple of years have their roots in successful crowd funding. As such, we will be doing periodic check-ins on what is currently out there bidding for the money out of our wallets.
For our first foray into Fund It Friday, I want to jump in with one of the cooler projects that I’ve seen recently, Slain!
Slain! is being developed by Wolf Brew Games, a small group of metal loving industry veterans with the most badass self portraits I’ve seen associated to a campaign. Seriously, check em out, I’ll wait. The game is a tribute to 80s/90s style gore filled hack and slashes, and it’s looking seriously good.
In Slain!, you’ll find yourself playing the hero, Bathoryn, who’s out on a mission to fight to and clear seven towers in a beautiful Gothic retro-style backdrop. Wolf Brew Games is promising a fairly wide variety of monster enemies, puzzles and challenges leading up to the seven overlords that you must slay. From what I’ve seen so far, these overlords are big, mad mothers. I can’t wait to chop ’em up.
The team is asking for $12,000 to get this project on it’s feet, and as of the writing of this article, they are sitting just above $4,800 from over 300 backers, with 28 days to go. Not bad, if you ask me. You can check out some more information, including a pretty cool teaser trailer at their website.
Slain! is set to launch sometime May, for the PC, Mac, Linux, PSVita and PS4, and, if you pledge $25 or more, you’ll get a Steam key as well as a voucher for your choice of PS platform. Not too shabby. Get on it, guys. Let’s see what they’ve got!
