We all know Hearthstone, the online CCG from Blizzard that has been keeping you occupied while taking a bathroom break when you should be working. (Come on, I KNOW I am not the only person who does this.) What a lot of fans of the game fail to realize is that there is some serious eSports level competition out there for Hearthstone.
Large tournaments for DOTA or LoL are somewhat hard to miss these days if you spend much time on Twitch or Reddit. A few have even hit the big time appearing on ESPN, while unfortunately some of the smaller tourneys can get lost in the mix. But have no fear! We’ve got your back.
The Deck Gauntlet 3 tournament for Hearthstone will begin on Sept. 5th and go through the 9th. During this time, some of the biggest names in eSports will compete for a $5000 prize pool, including Na’Vi, compLexity, SK Gaming, Team Virtus.pro and ANOX. $5000 isn’t a lot of money, but the competition should be entertaining regardless.
The event will be live streamed each day on Stream.me, an Austin, TX based streaming platform similar to Twitch. They offer streams up to 4k at 60fps, but no word yet if the tournament will be at that resolution. Either way, this seems like a good step for the site’s beta, and will likely draw in a good deal many viewers.
The tournament schedule is as follows:
- Group Stage Day 1 – Monday, Sept. 5 at 18:00 CEST
- Group Stage Day 2 – Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 18:00 CEST
- Group Stage Day 2 – Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 18:00 CEST
- Playoffs Day 1 – Thursday, Sept, 8 at 18:00 CEST
- Playoffs Day 2 – Friday, Sept. 9 at 18:00 CEST
It will be interesting to see how the format of this tournament plays out, being a 1v1 game with multiple teams in the running. We are excited to give this a watch!
