Worried about never being able to chat with your friends? Worried about not knowing what to talk about with your friends? Worried you’ll never actually know some crazy random obscure piece of information about your friends that could possibly win you a million dollars on a game show? Never fear, Nintendo has you covered! Recently released Miitomo has all the answers to your social woes.
Miitomo was recently released by Nintendo as a mobile app for your phones, though I guess you can play it on your tablet. You start by creating a Mii, just like you would on any of your newer Nintendo consoles (though, in my opinion, they are lacking in hair colors and styles, no blue hair for me). You also customize the voice your Mii talks with and its personality. The personality of your Mii dictates how expressive it is when responding to questions and answers. After you have created your Mii you can then dress it up in clothes you purchase from the store with earned coins. You earn coins by answering questions, completing challenges, and sometimes from daily rewards. You can also purchase coins with real money, ranging from 1,000 coins for $0.99 to 105,000 coins for $74.99. If you choose to you can link your account to the new My Nintendo rewards program and also get points for that! You can also link your account to various social media sites to add friends. Finally, you can add friends in person. You get an achievement for this and get My Nintendo point, so I highly recommend doing this.
Miitomo is a new take on social media. Instead of saying what you want, you are presented with questions that you answer. This presents a different kind of honesty that you don’t always see on other forms of social media. Of course you can always lie, but why when it isn’t asking for any super personal details? You can also skip a question if you don’t have an answer or you just don’t feel like answering that particular one. This makes it harder to present a false persona that you see on many other forms of social media. I’m not hating on social media; it is just refreshing to see something that forces you to be honest, which is something we don’t often see in today’s world.
The store is a new feature for your Mii. You can customize what your Mii wears by visiting the store and spending your hard earned coins. There are outfit combinations, individual pieces, accessories, socks, and shoes. Not all items can be worn with each other, and it’s a trial and error to find out which ones don’t work with each other. You can try on the pieces to find your perfect look. When you change outfits, either in your closet or store you get your picture taken in your new outfit. You can customize the pose, background, and text on the picture. You can share your picture with your friends in order to get likes increasing your fashion rating.
Oh yeah, there are two different types of ratings, a fashion rating and a friend/popularity rating. You increase your fashion rating by changing your outfit and having your friends like your photo. Nintendo gives you a piece of clothing every time your rating goes up. Your friend rating goes up just by interacting with your friends. Nintendo rewards you for this rating with various prizes including coins, clothing items, and game tickets.
Game tickets are used to play for that week’s fashion line; each line is offered for two weeks in game, and you can eventually be bought in the store. You drop your friends Mii into a pachinko style game where the Mii bounces all around until finally landing on your prize. You can also spend 500 coins to drop your friends; personally I haven’t played much because I haven’t fallen in love with any of the featured clothing lines. It is rather satisfying to see the Mii’s expressions as they bounce around the game board though.
To sum up, this is game everyone should play it; it’s a great way to kill time while learning new things about your friends. The fact that you can link to your my Nintendo account and get actual rewards from Nintendo is a bonus that is awesome and blows my mind. Nintendo is offering a free game, with no ads, and you can get actual rewards just for logging in and learning new things about your friends. It is just the bees knees.
