Blu-ray collectors and cult cinema fans have no doubt heard the names of Cult Epics, Synapse, Grindhouse, and 8-Films. These labels have been distributing some of best cult treasures to blu-ray and DVD for several years, bringing such titles as Tenebrae, Pieces, and the Nekromantic films back to life with quality transfers and all the bells and whistles you could want.
Nico B, the founder of Cult Epics, and producer Steve Aquilina have teamed up to launch a new label called REEL GORE RELEASING. So far, they’ve announced three projects that are in the works, with the first set to launch in August of this year, and it’s looking like these releases are going to be as exciting as they come.
The announced titles include:
- Violent Shit – The Movie (August 2016) – a bigger budget revamp of the cult-schlock-gore classics of the 80s.
- Masks (September 2016) – a German Giallo gore feast from the director Andreas Marschall (Tears of Kali, German Angst)
- Blood on Melies’ Moon (October 2016) – the return of direction for Luigi Cozzi (Contamination), featuring appearances by Dario Argento and Lamberto Bava.
Not much else is known about the label at this point, but the cover of Violent Shit that they released is very reminiscent of Sex, Murder, Art or Pieces, and that is a very, very good thing. We can only hope that each of their releases will get the Blu-ray + DVD + CD treatment, but regardless, we are extremely excited to see this label pop up and can’t wait to get our hands on their films.
