Theatrical Releases Feb 2017
Now that Trump has become President and the world hasn’t ended (yet), we can try and find something good to look forward to in the future. I mean, we may not have a whole lot of future left, amirite? So let’s take a look at the Theatrical Releases Feb 2017 and see what new and exciting things are going to come out to keep our minds off of our political affairs and alternative facts.
Releasing Feb. 3rd, we have another Ring movie coming out. Now, you may or may not have any expectations or excitement over this one, but I am cautiously optimistic. It may just be wishful thinking, I’ll definitely admit, especially given how bad the CG looks when we see our favorite ghostly gal coming out of a tipped over flatscreen TV in the trailer. But having said that, I would love to see another good Ring movie, and I’d also like to see a successful telling of the paranormal with new technology …maybe I’m hoping for too much.
John Wick Chapter 2
February is apparently the month of sequels we are skeptical about. John Wick was one of the coolest new movies that I’ve seen in recent memory, and I liked it even more when I found out that Keanu Reeves really was a badass with guns, but was a sequel really necessary? I swear on everything I hold to be holy, if they turn Wick into another Taken series that gets more and more unnecessary, I’ll be piiiiiissed. Do the right thing, guys. Make this one good. John Wick 2 is in theaters on Feb. 10th.
The LEGO Batman Movie
I’ll admit it, The Lego Movie was one of the biggest surprises to me in recent memory. I went in expecting it to be just bad, but holy shit was I surprised. I’ve always been a fan of the product, but that movie was better than it had any right to be. Hell I cried during the father – son scene (don’t judge me, I’m emotional dammit). So once again, as per this month’s theme, I am cautiously optimistic about a Batman focused sequel – with the caveat that they have at least one other main character, because Will Forte as Batman was okay in the first one, but not necessarily something I want for an hour and a half. We’ll find out on Feb. 10th.
The Great Wall
I’ll be honest here. I don’t know if this is a case of Hollywood whitewashing a film or if Matt Damon has just found himself in China of long ago, but either way, I’m not sure if I’m on board here. I’m adding it to this list because it’s Matt Damon and because I think this might just be a trainwreck that I cannot look away from. But who cares? There be dragons on Feb. 17th!
A Cure for Wellness
This last entry is one I don’t know a whole lot about to be quite honest. The trailers are somewhat vague and I’ve (purposely) not done any research to find out more about the story here. The best comparison I can make, based on the tone of the trailer, is something akin to Shutter Island, which could be a very, very good thing. Regardless, I’ll be seeing this for sure and I’m excited to see how deep this rabbit hole goes. A Cure for Wellness comes out on Feb. 17th.
So those are the Theatrical Releases Feb 2017. What are your thoughts? Gonna see any of these films? Anything I missed? Leave a comment below and let me know!
